Signaling the inner rasta in all of us, Hoosier Brewing rolls out the fruit. In this case, its the tropical island favorite- mango! Or maybe fruit is the Caribbean's second favorite thing to roll.
Pouring densely packed with pulpy goodness, Hoosier's Mango Kush version of Roll The Fruit carries the visual appeal of mango puree. Indiscernible where the froth separates form beer, its also hard to tell where fresh mango starts and where other beer components begin with a drift of the nose. Fruity sweet with its first sip, the tongue is slathered with macerated mango, pie filling and simple mango syrup.
As the sour ale underneath peaks through, there's a tart, tight and tangy emergence of sourness in the shape of complementary lime, lemon, gooseberry, green apple and sour white grape. As the natural fermentation funk links up with musty fruit components, there's a dank and slightly bruised taste that rounds out the fruit rollup sweetness and adds interest to the growing sourness as the session closes.
Full bodied and best sipped through a straw, this smoothie sour ale certainly lives up to its lofty fruit promises. Fruity from sip to finish, its a great ale for people who don't like beer but like sorbet with a brief aftertaste of burlap and bellini.
