Served in a snifter glass from the can.
Appearance: Yellow colored body with medium bubbles. White head which rose less than half of one fingers length off the body.
Smell: wheat grassy aroma which dissipates quickly.
Taste: Sweet citrus with heavy malt. Oatmeal and lemon skin and very complex with s sprinkle of smooth bitterness.
Mouth: Medium carbonation. Sticky body with a palate crushing finish. Paired with cheese and kills almost whatever you were eating.
Overall: Very good brew, should have bought more considering where I got it from in New Jersey had it for s pretty descent price considering what else is out there that is comparable. Salud!

10th review. liking this NJ brewer in the Pine Barrens.
a) Thick hazed muddy apricot body, lively head, average lace and retention. Murky.
s) Lacking in power. Peach, melon, grass, wheat.
t) Very powerful. Flavors jump up to satisfy: Peach, melon, grass, wheat, straw, hot farina cereal.
f) Creamy. Good body from spelt.
o) Original, good use of Spelt.

a: hazy, bright orange color with a hint of butter yellow. poured a 2 finger off-white head that fades quickly. could use a bit of work on the appearance
s: light aroma of orange juice, mango, and pineapple. a little strawberry and sharp peach. something almost wheaty, and some strawberry sweetness. a little bit of the sugary sweetness that you get in traditional DIPA's
t: the sweetness follows the nose. ripe mango and sweet pineapple. sweet honeydew, orange juice, and peach. some sugar, and rich caramel. a little bit of that earthy wheaty note along with dough at the end
m: mouthfeel is full, with low-moderate carbonation. the spelt adds some nice body of this
o: a nice beer, but not quite at that 'great' level that i get from a lot of Icarus beers. the appearance could use some work. aroma takes a second to hit you, but is nice when it does. taste is pretty good, but doesn't exceed that. mouthfeel is spot on. i think this beer should also be re-classified as a DIPA

Picked this up and the Social Distancing down at Icarus about a month and a half ago. The other brews that I've had from Icarus were nice and this was quite enjoyable as well. Almost felt more like a New England IPA than an American IPA but semantics aside, there was enough to enjoy here as the alcohol was well-hidden and the flavor was quite full and enjoyable.
The pour to this was typical for a beer of this style as it was cloudy, golden, and muted in appearance with lots of big bubbles topping it off. No lacing remained down the side of my pint glass as that was the only drawback of this beer. Lots of spelt , juicy tropical fruit, bright lime, and a hint of booze in the nose as everything except the alcohol was present in the taste. Can't say that I've ever had Green Bastard before but the dankness of the Lupulin Mosaic and Galaxy were apparent as this was quite smooth and subtly slick on the palate. Peach skin and dank pineapple emerged once this fully warmed up as there was just a bit of dark sediment that I had to swirl out before I finished this off.
Not a lot of carbonation to this as the tropical fruit and spelt were allowed to linger, as they worked quite well together. Lots of white peach and melon stuck around in the aftertaste as this ended with more fruit and sweetness than I felt during my first sip. Canned on 5/26 with "ICKAHRES" written underneath that, this was a fun beer with just a bit of burn that stuck around a little too long. Not a bad brew as it was on par with everything else that I've had from Icarus.

Can to Snifter (canned 5/26/20).
LOOK: dark yellow color, hazy and also pulpy looking. Big creamy eggshell head, with excellent retention.
AROMA: tropical fruit. palm, grass.
TASTE: guava, lime, some hay and grass. slightly bitter with a sweetness.
FEEL: thick for an IPA, smooth, a little silty, but a nice bitter sweet finish makes it very palatable.
Saw some mixed reviews on this, so I was not sure what to expect, but I really like this. Also did some Wikipedia research on Spelt while drinking and reviewing, which is very interesting.
Another thumbs up review for Icarus.

Pours an opaque lemon custard color with a foamy white head. Smell is reminiscent of citrus, fresh cut grass, The taste is Spelt grain, it is overwhelming. The only other beer I know of is Dogfish head Hazy IPA that is a spelt based beer. The first one I rated well, after the 2nd the spelt became sickening. To each his own- I know spelt is an ancient grain, and there seems to be a good reason not to use it in beer. Our ancestors were not that stupid- Overall why would someone ruin a perfectly good beer. Pushing the boundaries is cool if it works out well- I still have some hazy ripple IPAs in the fridge. And I disagree they are in harmony with the Grateful Dead tune ripple.

Hazy golden pour. Decent IBUs, refreshing and sharp, a pretty aggressive IPA. Pleasant, not very complex. Enjoyable but not exceptional. Not up to Yacht Juice levels, but solid.

On tap at the scene of the crime.
Pours a hazy pee yellow color, very uninviting. White cap, half-F or so, modest lacing.
Barely there fruit aromas; pineapple and mango.
Mostly pineapple, all fruit juice all the time.
Feel? next to none, unless "watery" is a "feel".
Another feeble attempt at NEIPA. Juice with alcohol does not rate "beer" to me.
