Poured from 375mL corked & caged bottle into a tulip. This is listed as "Black Cap aged in brandy/sherry barrel for 1 year", bottled 1/30/2019, "9+% ABV". 3+ years old, but purchased at the taproom just a couple weeks ago.
Appearance: rich, deep, dark red hue; so red it's almost black! Head is a thin finger of compact red foam; I'd say the fruit has made its mark here. Really very pretty indeed.
Smell: welp, there's jam, jam and then more jam. A bit of sweet and tart and caramel come through, but -- as much as I like the fruit here -- it is really one-dimensional.
Taste: a little tart, a bit sweet, and doggone plenty of fruit. I think the sherry/brandy barrel complements the blackberry; it's an Oregon flavor indeed! That being said, I think just a jab more tartness would be super nice here.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: I do like this beer, but I'd like it more with just a little more brightness.
