Well, they seem to be bucking the trend of Portland ME breweries by making a double IPA like they used to be: strong in the malt, light in the hops and a strong bitterness, maybe even a little of an alcohol-ish taste. However it has evolved a bit with its hazy, unfiltered appearance and use of caramel malts (don't worry, its not a sweet beer by any means, but it is present in just the right amount).
It has a deep orange color with a silky smooth head that retains - this is very appealing. I'm not really discerning the hop characteristics, but that's not really what this beer is trying to do I think. The haze is a little more substantial than the common fare around these parts. After taste is a nice solid sting of bitterness against a semi-sweet background. Smell is malty (as expected) but doesn't really jump out. Feels sticky on the lips but this is not an overly malty beer though.
All in all this is a brewery to keep an eye on (see what I did there ;). If you're getting tired of the nuanced hazy IPAs around Portland this will be a nice jolt, but with some familiar notes.
