German-style refillable growler filled at the brewpub.

First pint glass pours with a frothy 3/4" cocoa brown head, which lasted reasonably well and laced very nicely. Opaque dark brown/black brew, with a nose of dark chocolate and wheat. Taste is sweet chocolate upfront, wheat with a touch of citrus in the middle, and closes with some bitterness. Mouthfeel is smooth, although the bitter end slows the ride down a bit, and drinkability is even a bit nicer, what with the not so hearty wheat consistency. A very quaffable dark brew, for sure.

Sampled from a 2 L growler filled at the pub. The beer is poured into a wheat flute glass. Pours a dark brown with a tan fluffy and spongy head foaming up. Craters form as the head fades, leaving windowpane latticework on sides of glass.
Aroma is cocoa powder and roasted malt almost to the point of smokiness.
First sip reveals an average body with very mild carbonation. Texture is smooth.
Flavor is sweet chocolate and brown sugar up front with just a bit of wheat twang in the middle. Moves to a roasty malt and lingering cocoa powder finish. The beer is lite and crisp easy to drink and flavorful.
A nice beer that was easy to finish a growler of solo.

very dark, almost light proof. splotchy tan coating of bubbles. stoutish. wonderful creamy dark malt aroma, some brown sugar and only the faintest hint of cocoa. chocolate emerges in the taste though, complementing the sweet creaminess and mild hop spice for an overall smooth ride. mild bitterness is nothing too distracting.. if looks could kill. pretty drinkable with a clean yet throughly coating finish. great exercise in making a big, flavorful beer drinkable by cutting the alcohol density and smoothing out the bitterness. just great.
