Reviewed on 12/4/2009. Growler from the brewpub. Pours a murky dark orange with a small white head. Aroma of lots of citrus, grapefruit, and tropical fruits. Flavor of rich caramel malt and a nice citrusy finish and hop oils. Alcohol is well hidden. Quite tasty and very easy to drink. Great IIPA.

A - a medium light brown, acorn colored DIPA with a thin almost nonexistant laced white head, with plenty of carbonation

S - big hoppy with slight citrus, definitely grapfruit, but hop dominate, there is a subtle fruity sweetness in the background, different from the grapefruit citrus

T - taste is big hops of course, but that background sweetness from the aroma comes forward and becomes a great brown sugary sweetness that compliment the piney hops nicely

M&D - smooth and sweet, sugary, but well balanced against the bitterness, a great mouthfeel if you enjoy hop bombs

they were out of Willi Whammer (grrr), but this is a good substitute

A ruddy amber/brown with a thick white head of foam and interesting lace patterns. Aroma is multi-faceted and consists of sweet malts, with a lack of hops, but an abundance of sesame seed and soy sauce flavors? I dunno, but I like it. Taste is equally as weird. I get tons of sesame, with some nice biscuity malts, and no real hops to be found anywhere! Mouthfeel is medium bodied, and drinkability is damn good. Weird? Yeah! Good? Yeah!

12 oz pint.

Thin and creamy white head with decent retention. Condensed lacing with good strength throughout the pint. A hazy light maple in color.

A pretty bold hop presence: oily, slight citrus, some pine. The hop aromatics are well balanced and don't really attack your sense of smell.

Pine and light lemon/grapefruit along with a syrupy hop oil. Not as harsh on the palate in terms of bitterness copmared to most Double IPAs. Finishes dry with a pleasant tart and bitter quality.

Very smooth and not grainy in the least. Medium bodied and coats the palate very well.

Deceptively drinkable. Smooth and very mellow in terms of flavor and mouthfeel. A well balanced Double that won't kill your tastebuds, making this one a nice compliment with food or on its own.

Enjoyed on cask at the brewpub.

Shaker pint glass presentation. Creamy, long-lasting 1" beige head over the slightly orangey dark amber brew, which laced with heavy foam throughout. Surprisingly balanced aroma. Taste is smooth malts, with maybe not as much hops character as I would expect. Mouthfeel and drinkability are both incredible for the style, possibly due to more sedate hopping. Scarily drinkable nonetheless, with little sign of the alcohol.
