I don't know why they say it's retired. I purchased this in November 2016. Bought a growler. Little pricey for a growler but this is a good beer. Good quality and good taste. Not a ton of smell from the nose but nice. Very drinkable but certainly not a session. I Drove an hour to get this and am not disappointed.

Brewed every year, an ipa with Simcoe forward hop bitterness then luscious citrus notes to the finish. Hazy Amberish with medium body and crisp carbonation.

Draught @ Brewpub: This one pours a cloudy, orangish amber color. There was about no head on it at all. It has a nice nose. Grapefruit, tropicl fruits and a hint of pine. The taste is good. Some bitterness, grapefruit hops with a lot of the malts and sweetness coming through. A really decent brew.

Served on-tap on 11/12/2010 at Willimantic Brewing Co.
A: Cloudy, golden-amber color with a two-finger thick head of creamy white foam which left fantastic lacing. Very muddled, unfiltered quality; looks pulpy almost.
S: Lots of sweet, juicy, fruity hop aromas in the nose. Like grapefruit and orange juice combined with a floral hop scent.
T: Flavor mirrors the aroma nicely. Very sweet and bitter blend of malts yielding tropical fruit, citrus and floral flavors. Juicy, acidic and tart bitterness wash down slick and resinous.
M: Full-bodied mouthfeel with a good amount of unfiltered malt and yeast chew to it. Puckering sweet and bitter citrus hops.
D: A potent, award-winning brew for the citrus hophead. West Coast feel with East Coast sensibility, it takes the bitter, citrusy hops you crave and delivers a sweet, juicy balance with none of the 6% ABV taken notice of.

Reviewed on 11/13/2009. Growler from the brewpub. Pours a clear dark amber with a small white head. Aroma of garlicky hops, grassy hops, tropical fruits, sweet caramel malt. Flavor of citrusy hops, hop oils, sweet caramel malt. Sweet and malty. A little heavy for an IPA, but enjoyable.

German-style refillable growler filled at the brewpub.
First imperial pint pours with a tight 1/4" beige head, over the slightly cloudy dark reddish amber brew. Head is quickly down to a layer of teensy bubbles, with froth around the rim, with heavy sticky lace. Aroma is dominated by grapefruit hops character. Taste starts with malty sweetness, but it is short-lived, with the grapefruit and subsequent strong bitterness being the main story. Mouthfeel is smooth for the style, with very good drinkability. A good IPA from Willi, whodathunkit? :-)

Another great IPA from Willimantic. Nice balance of grapefruity-citrus rind hops with a sweet malt backdrop.... great hop flavor without over-the-top bitterness.
Hazy amber....good aroma of floral and citrus hops.
Medium mouthfeel....good carbonation...just right bitter aftertaste.
Very drinkable stuff.

Apricot colored with no head to comment on, as seems to be the case with many of this brewer's beers. Mouthfeel is a bit watery. Aroma is citrus-orangey, reminds me of orange juice. Flavor is big hops, without being overpowering. Hops is citrusy, a bit flowery and sweet. Very tasty. A tangy orange peel flavor lingers. This is a really nice IPA.
