Pours a clean maple in color with just a sheet of creamy, off white head. A few trickles of thin lace down the sides of the glass.
Sharp sour aromas: green apple, raisin, plum, grapefruit, lemon. Strong oak and whiskey that give off a near vinegar aroma with the tartness. Heavy, sharp alcohol whaffs.
Bright raisin, green apple, sour cherry, etc. Light milk chocolate tones. Wood chips and heavy oak that play well with the sourness. The bourbon flavor goes in and out of the sip, yet very evident. A sharp sourness at mid-sip followed by a wharming and bright alcohol-soaked oak aftertaste.
Medium bodied; velvety soft on the palate. Near absent of any carbonation. Amazingly smooth.
The alcohol presence is up front and in your face, which makes it difficult to indulge more in such a quality concoction.

appearance: burnt caramel and clear.. paper thing ring suited to a strong barleywine. dots here and there of lacing. looks dangerous.
aroma: sour cherries and wood.. vanilla and tobacco with obvious oak highlights. amazingly mild yet explosive with detail
mouthfeel of dry red wine.. nice brisk fizz and champagne tartness present here. barrel imparts little butter or lactic notes.. floral like a dandelion wine.. sublime and super light, drinkable for a 11% barleywine. nice scotch like twist in the finish.. just something to remind you of the power.
yep, there's sourness. don't think the 02's age could cause this level of mellow tartness.. more like white wine barrel aging. or infection. either way, the beer has been magically blessed with something nice.
