Paid a visit to arguably this, the best brewpub in Connecticut, and came upon this new release on tap. A nice effort but I have to say it was wanting to a certain degree. The appearance was a deep, dark brown with modest lace clinging to the glass. At first, really nothing discernable in the aroma but acorn notes became apparent as it warmed in the glass along with damp forest flora. The taste was pleasant but unremarkable. No nuttiness to speak of and the malt was on vacation, however, one could detect a raiseny bite along with slight hoppiness. Mouthfeel was on the thin side with some bitterness in the finish, but not terribly viscous. Sure it's drinkable, but I can't help but think this was a young beer that might take on a whole different profile in a few weeks or so.
