Growler filled at the brewery less than 24hrs ago. Pours a copper orange color with an inch of frothy head. Tons of lacing. Smells great. Aromas of sweet pine and citrus hops. Some malts as well. The taste is orange and lemon up front followed by some bitter pine hops. Bitter grapefruit at the finish. Some light breadiness. This is one of Willibrew's hoppiest offerings I've had. Medium bodied with a good deal of carbonation. Pretty impressed with this one. Overall, I hope I get to have this one again. Good stuff.

 

 

 

Reviewed on 4/3/2010. On tap at the brewpub. Pours a cloudy light orange with a small white head. Aroma of tons of citrus, hop oils, and grapefruit. Flavor again of citrus, hop oils, light fruits. Great crisp palate with malty notes in the finish. This one reminds me of Hopslam. Great IPA!

Orangey amber copper honey colored with an off white frothy head that settled out slowly. Bright and fresh aroma of orange peel and grapefruit. Pungent flavor of fresh pine needles upfront, joined by sweet tangerine, acidic grapefruit, orange pith, and pine sap. An even malt backbone rides beneath. Full and rich mouthfeel. Very tasty and highly drinkable.

L: Pours a nice orange yellow color with a medium sized and medium bodied white colored head that laces the glass nicely on the way down.
S: Smells of sweet toasted malts, then a huge grapefruity, lemony, and slightly orangey aroma going into a nice hop aroma at the end.
T: Very nice base of toasted malts followed by a big grapefruity and lemony flavor leading into a slight orangey flavor right before a big earthy, floral, and very citrus-y hop finish.
M: Very fresh, crisp, refreshing, lighter medium bodied, perfect amount of carbonation.
D: Pretty drinkable beer, this was a very citrus-y and hoppy IPA that was nice.

A: Pours a bright, light copper with a good head, especially considering that I've had this growler for about a week now. Absolutely beautiful lacing as it makes its way down, filling the entire glass.

S: Very fresh earthy and floral hops. You can almost smell the bitterness. Quite an explosion. There's nothing else to it, and I am absolutely not complaining.

T: Herbal, earthy, and floral hops by the ton. Quite bitter, and almost reminds me of a fresh-hopped ale. Everything melds together quite nicely. No malt and no alcohol taste. Fantastic.

M: Nice and dry from the abundance of hops. Medium bodied with good carbonation.

D: Very drinkable. A bit bitter to be extremely quaffable, but it's right up there. I've got fresh Two Hearted in the fridge, and I'm definitely sticking with this. I have nothing but very high praise for this one.

A: Hazy gold body with a finger of frothy white foam. Average retention and lacing. Pretty good, but far from great.

S: Nothing but bitter hops - a mixture of floral and citrus notes, leaning toward the grapefruit side. Nice.

T: Tons of grapefruit and grassy hops; distinctly more herbal than the nose. No real malt presence, but nevertheless the huge dry bitterness on the finish isn't quite overwhelming. Not a bad IPA at all, but the name fits - this is intense.

M: Pleasantly light bodied (for an IPA) with fine, lively carbonation.

D: Considering how purely bitter this one is, I'm drinking it in a hurry.

Notes: Yet another solid IPA from Willibrew. I didn't know they could get more single-minded with the hops than with the Sterling-Nugget IPA, but they did. I still prefer Pushing the Envelope IPA, but this is pretty great, too.

Was supposed to attend a WWII display today in NE CT, but that fell by the wayside, so Willimantic was nearby. Great way to salvage the day! Started things off with a couple of pints of this, listed as Evil EY-IPA on their board.

My shaker pint was filled with a cloudy, flat, golden-orange colored liquid. The opaque brew had a fine but very thin and fast-ebbing layer of white bubbles forming the head, and lacing was a bit here and there. Lots of hops were evident in the nose, with very little to suggest any maltiness present. The aroma was high on the grapefruit scale, bigtime. As for mouthfeel, the body was medium, and the feel itself had a tickle of prickle on the tongue, but was still fairly smooth.

Flavor-wise, this was very puckery. There's lots of grapefruit all over, with plenty of rindy, pithy, resiny characteristics, with a minimum of anything resembling maltiness. I also even picked up a subtle hint of mint here, as in their Sterling-Nugget IPA I had earlier this month. Pretty good overall, if you like unbalanced hop-bombs! Yes, I do! ;-)

From the growler, chilled and poured into a pint glass this unfiltered brew showed a chestnut amber color, slightly hazed but light hued with a goodly off-white frothy head and nice lacing. The aroma was a nice grapefruit cotton candy and sweet malt. The flavor suggested similar grapefruit sweet and bitter, smooth and light, but there is a solid toffee malt undercurrent. The outcome is clearly a bitter brightness in a medium bodied brew that goes down easily. It's a little flowery, absolutely a solid IPA pleasure.

Brewed with loads of Galena, Simcoe and Amarillo hops this unfiltered India Pale Ale has Pilsner, Munich and Caramel malts for an "attempt" at balance. The 7.2% abv was a saving grace.

This was the thickest and strangest IPA I have ever had. Not too well balanced with loads of hops and citrus (grapefruit) smell. VERY unfiltered almost looking like a glass of grapefruit juice with lots of pulp. Tasted very hoppy and so thick I thought about chewing before I swallowed. A bit too hoppy and heavy for me and I didn't think that was possible.
