While a lovely colored and tasty beer, it isn't a great representation of an English Bitter/Pale Ale. Enjoyable and worth the time.

Served on-tap on 11/12/10 at Willimantic Brewing Co.

A: Dark, weighty-looking copper color with a thin cap of creamy white foam which left a bit of nice lacing. A bit of suspension and gravity visible, but fairly clean.

S: Rich, sweet malt aroma with a fair amount of strong, herbal hops. Roasted caramel and candied fruits in the nose.

T: Deep, sweet malt-forward flavor with toffee, caramel and roasted barley. A hint of alcohol noted in the flavor, which winds down to a sweet, sticky, bitter and buttery finish. Deep-roasted fall beer for the malt lover.

M: Full-bodied malt flavor with a little spicy herbal bitterness, but overall a bit sweet and cloying.

D: Lots of flavor packed into a relatively balanced ale. A tad weighty for some, perhaps, but a warm, cozy malt-lovers companion. 6.1% ABV is a little boozy for a copper ale but right in line with the cold of the season.

Draught @ Brewpub: This one poured a clear, coppery color. Mine had almost no head, but left just a touch of lacing. The aroma is nice. It has a roasty, slightly smoky aroma. Faint malts also. The taste is pretty good. A bit of roastiness up front, along with some slightly sweet caramel. No real bitterness at all. Some very faint spices in the background. Nice
