I don't see a date listed on the can or the label.
Appearance: The body is a deep golden-orange in the middle with hints of lighter gold around the edges of the glass. It is mostly opaque but some objects manage to remain visible through the glass, mostly at the bottom where the beer is less concentrated. There a couple of floaters in the beer but it is not a consistent occurrence. The head is very short and white with a smooth texture. Some retention but it mostly fades out. Some sheets of lacing on the glass.
Aroma: A massive grapefruit aroma leaps from the glass, with hints of apricot and tangerine. It is a very bright and fresh smelling beer.
Taste: Up front there is pineapple and grapefruit pith. Towards the middle there is this old chalky expired chocolate flavor mixed with a touch of fresh cabbage. There is a light bit of old ice flavor in the back of the palate with some grassy notes. The aftertaste has a bit of alcohol. As a whole the flavors of the beer are a miss.
Mouthfeel: The body has a medium-heavy texture with a slight smoothness. Carbonation feels light against the apparent thickness of the beer. It is a slow drinking beer. Medium hop bitterness that comes across as overcooked herbs.
Overall: The can states that this is a "RYE INDIA PALE ALE" and that it is "6.5% ABV" which is made with "BARLEY MALT RYE MALT VIENNA MALT CARAMALT AZACCA HOPS CITRA HOPS." The most disappointing element of this beer is that the rye character never shows up at all. Rye is used in the name of the style and is listed as an ingredient, but it is completely pushed out of the aroma and flavor profile. This beer is basically a standard, common New England Style IPA and the rye malt is absolutely ignored in this recipe. As a NEIPA it floats at the average or slightly above average range, but for a beer that advertises Rye it is a complete miss. If you are looking for a good New England IPA, there are better ones from this brewery (Proven Theory) but this one has nothing new to add. I would be willing to try another Rye IPA from the brewery but I wouldn't buy this again. I wouldn't recommend it unless you were looking for a New England IPA and it was the only one in stock.
