Collab with Three Ships Coffee
We formulated this stout specifically to compliment the notes of blueberry and chocolate we get from their Kings Head roast. We used a special de-husked roasted barley to add some nice roasty notes, but keep it nice and smooth to let coffee shine through.

Had on tap. Pitch black pour with a dark khaki cap. Really pleasant roast with coffee and dark chocolate in the nose. Taste is much the same, more classic with the roast starring, coffee, dark chocolate and a hint of earth on the second half. Thought the taste was a little deeper with the roast art. Lighter and dry, obviously roasty and percolated, smooth in a frothy way

I don't see a date listed on the can.
Appearance: It is a black-bodied beer with a very large, dark brown head. The head has fizzy small bubbles of carbonation and although it seems to be receding fast it still maintains a decent head given how large it was when pouring. However, it will eventually fade out to nothing more than a slick black glass surface. There is no lacing.
Aroma: It smells like chocolate at first, then the aroma of coffee comes through. It smells a bit like a mocha.
Taste: Up front there is coffee with this earthy note and a touch of dark chocolate. Towards the middle it has picks up a lightly roasted flavor and a touch more earthiness, but there is also more breadth to the chocolate flavor. The chocolate flavor comes across as very bitter and earthy like a bakers chocolate. There is a light bit of alcohol flavor that starts to come through but only after a few sips. Towards the back of the mouth it is mostly malt bitterness with a light bitter coffee character. It is very tasty.
Mouthfeel: It is full bodied and smooth. It is very easy on the palate. There is a fairly strong bitterness which seems to come mostly from the coffee and the malt. There is a light alcohol presence but it isn't enough to detract from overall drinkability. The alcohol is mostly obscured by the stronger bitterness in the back of the palate and in the aftertaste.
Overall: It is a really fantastic beer. The can calls this a "COFFEE STOUT" and it definitely lives up to that description. The label also says that it is "MADE WITH BARLEY MALT MUNICH MALT CHOCOLATE MALT ROASTED BARLEY CARAMEL MALT COLUMBUS HOPS COFFEE BEANS." Although the beer is not made with any actual chocolate, the chocolate malt character gives this a strong chocolate aroma and flavor which really fits this beer. The coffee flavor in this beer is excellent. As a whole this is one of the better coffee beers I have had. I would definitely buy it again and I highly recommend it, especially to coffee lovers.
