I don't see any date code listed on the can.
Appearance: The beer has a black body and it has a medium-short, creamy and fluffy textured light tan head. It has excellent head retention and when it eventually fades out there is a nice thick ring around the glass with a film over the surface. There isn't much in the way of lacing except for one spot with a wisp of lacing.
Aroma: It smells like Cracker Jacks which gives the impression of caramelized popcorn and peanuts. A distinct cooked peanut flavor comes through and there is a bit of both coffee and chocolate on the nose.
Taste: Up front there is a bit of an oddly bitter roasted flavor. Towards the middle of the palate there is a roasted peanut flavor which is very strong and there is a bit of dark chocolate flavor. It has a bit of a Baby Ruth flavor but without the caramel. Towards the back of the mouth there is a mellow char flavor mixed with lightly burnt nuts and a very light hint of pine.
Mouthfeel: It is full bodied and extremely smooth. It does an excellent job of filling out the palate and spreading around the flavor of the beer. The carbonation feels perfect. The label on the can states that this is "8.88% ABV" and it does an excellent job of hiding it. I doubt any improvement could be made on the mouthfeel.
Overall: The label on the can calls this an "IMPERIAL STOUT MADE WITH SESAME PEANUT BRITTLE" and that it is a "BREW IN COLLABORATION WITH OUR FRIENDS AT HIGH SIDE IN FAIRFAX, VA." The label also includes an ingredients lists which states:
"BARLEY MALT
MUNICH MALT
CHOCOLATE MALT
ROASTED BARLEY
FLAKED OATS
MAGNUM HOPS
ROASTED PEANUTS
ROASTED SESAME SEEDS
VANILLA BEANS"
The vanilla doesn't come through in any obvious way, but the beer has a clearly nutty presence which is likely enhanced by the sesame seeds. This beer delivers everything it advertises. It would make a great beer to enjoy during Halloween or for those who enjoy chocolate and peanuts. The flavor and aroma of this beer are fantastic but what probably steals the show is the mouthfeel. This beer has a wonderfully full body with a weighty presence that helps amplify the flavors and how they are delivered to the palate. I highly recommend this beer and I would buy it again.
