Ashland is our robust porter with freshly ground coffee from our friends at @blindtigercoffee that is a rich mix of Colombian and Ethiopian beans which nicely carryover. We cold steep it for 24 hours then add it to the fermenting beer near its finish.

16oz can purchased from the fridge as part of a 4-pack for $16.99 plus tax. No canned on date. Based on Instagram, this was released on or around November 13, 2025 so it's just under two months old.

Look: It looks amazing - very dark, almost black in the glass but I can tell that it's actually dark brown. There was a very frothy light brown head about two fingers tall that dissipated to a thin ring with nice lacing left behind.

Smell: It smells excellent. I get top notes of a very fresh, slightly sweet coffee. I get the impression that there is a hinting of some astringency. Very roasty on the nose, as expected from a robust porter with coffee. Secondary notes are caramel, toffee, and nutty notes. I'm also getting some creamy notes and some licorice on the finish. It smells really nice.

Taste: It's delicious. It has a very strong coffee flavor, and you can tell that the coffee is of very high quality. The finish has a high bitterness. My impression is that most of the bitterness is coming from hops, rather than coffee. This beer tastes complex, and I am at a bit of a loss to describe it. I get peppery notes on the finish, along with licorice and baker's chocolate. As I said, the finish is quite hoppy (reminds me a bit of Cascade hop but it is probably something English like Fuggles or Goldings). Eventually, after the bitterness fades, the sweeter toffee, caramel, and chocolate notes come onto the palate. Nice.

Feel: The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, and it has a nice creaminess. Carbonation level is appropriate.

Overall: It's really tasty, complex flavors. This is my first ARS Brewery beer. I've had a few of their collabs before, and I liked them. The quality of the Blind Tiger coffee is really highlighted here, and ARS does a great job incorporating it into their high quality robust porter.

On tap at Local 44 in Philadelphia earlier this evening.

Splendid looking pint. Black body, strong persistent tan head, rings of lacing. Aroma is malty and of coffee. On tasting, coffee is present, but not overdone. Finish is coffee followed by a pleasing lasting bitterness.

Overall, good call to end the session with this one.
