Pours dark brown with a red eclipse into a glass from a can. The beige head is one finger high and silky; sticky lacing is left upon the glass.
Aroma is of the chocolate and brown malt with a slightly tangy dark fruit quality and a sprinkling of ash. The flavour is on par with the aroma with burnt chocolate, a rush of sweet dark fruit - blackcurrant and prune - and bitter raw coffee beans. It's mature with notes of ash, leather and black licorice on the back end, yet a bicurious porter which switches between sweet and bitter throughout the draw. There's a nice balance at play which likely comes from the interplay between the dark fruit and the malt. Often with the addition of dark fruit you glean some sourness but this porter doesn't hold an inkling of tang although some was present in the nose. It's very easy drinking, nothing really holding the torch.
The body is far thinner that I'd prefer in a porter, with some light carbonation.
Overall there's some nice flavours going but it doesn't hold the body. Still, nice drinking and definitely sessionable.
