Urban Village Brewing Co. "Smurf"
$3/4 oz. cask poured via beer engine with a sparkler at the brewery
The "Smurf" seems to be a one-off cask but I'm not sure about that. It's their "Super Villian" NEIPA with vanilla, spirulina, and lactic acid added. The spirulina lends it a blue-green color, and having started as a New England style IPA it's cloudy. The head is a creamy white cap. In the nose it dispalys fruit pulp, some clearer but still simply "tropical" fruit, and a very light hint of vanilla. The flavor offers pineapple, vanilla, tartn acidity, passionfruit, and some spiciness. It's moderately bitter but between the added acidity and the spiciness it finishes dry with the spiciness lingering. In the mouth it's medium bodied and quite smooth due to all of the extra proteins, the added lactose, a moderate cabonation level, and the journey from the cask to the sparkler through the beer engine. It's certainly not their best beer, and not even nearly as good as the original "Super Villian", but I understand that it's experimental, and something to put on the hand pump to widen their line up of offerings.
