this is a tasty and super easy drinking take on a brown ale, and the coffee element is excellent in it, but the base brown ale is really light, almost as much an amber as a brown, despite there being an obvious chocolate malt character to it, it just doesnt have the grain depth i like in the style. in a way its neat because it lets the coffee kind of play the roasted role here, but its not enough to balance the caramel sweetness of both the grain and interestingly enough, the coffee. this has a long boiled sugary aspect to it that doesnt need to be as potent as it is. the coffee has a ton of flavor, is earthy and fresh and seemingly high quality, the whole thing is just on the lighter side. its nice as a food beer, fatty meats like pork and even something like a chargrilled oyster worked with this, its smooth going down with a relaxed carbonation and a bitterness to the coffee that balances the finish. overall a tasty brown ale that really shows the coffee well, but a more robust base beer and a drier finish would improve this for my tastes...

The appearance is closer to a darker amber than a brown ale. Clear.Plenty of streaky lace on the glass from the short-lived head.
Hoppier smell than I anticipated. Good darker malt nose. A good combination.
The taste is more “brown” than the appearance lets on. Highly hopped for the style. There’s some yeast to the taste as well. Full bodied but with a higher level of carbonation. Overall, I might describe this as a blend of an IPA with a Brown Ale.
