Tasted from a 12 oz bottle in a brandy snifter.

L - Beer is just one brown shade short of pitch black and opaque when held up to the light. Dark tan head is weak but persists as a thick ring around the glass and a few swirls. There is also strong, slow-moving lace on the glass. Both lace and head are made up of extremely fine bubbles.

S - Deliciaous aroma of maple syrup, coffee, brown sugar, a whiff of brandy-like alcohol and a hint of tobacco leaf. No hops or yeast evident. No oak.

T - Flavors are very much like the aromas. Sweet brown sugar, light molasses, maple syrup, low roasted coffee. The finish is dryer than expected, but with a sweet, alcoholic edge.

F - Thinnish body but with creamy carbonation and a silky smoothness. Low bitterness is barely noticeable, but it does keep the sweetness at bay. Moderate alcohol burn.

O - This is a strong, complex stout with swirls of boozy flavors and aromas. It reminds me of Dogfish Head's Palo Santo Maron, except that it is missing the wood character that is such a large part of that beer. I'd love to try an oak-aged version of this beer to get that wood addition.

The beer pours Black with a thin khaki head that recedes quickly. It has low carbonation. The beer smells of sweet maple, vanilla, waffle cones, and brown sugar. It tastes of sweet maple, molasses, vanilla, waffle cones, and brown sugar. The mouthfeel is medium light. A solid stout, but comes off as a bit artificial.

This is a very good stout. Has an earthy smell to it.

My friend said at the first sip that he had low expectations, but he enjoys this beer much more than Founders CBS.

Has a very thick body to it. Drank out of a porter glass. Taste has a smooth body on the tongue with a big malt chocolate roasted taste. Have some water nearby; this beer will coat your mouth with thick sugary deliciousness. I really like this beer for the money. This Hooser approves.

Nice black beer with a bit of tan foam, that faded quickly. It smells like someone spilled maple syrup in my beer, a lot of maple syrup, an amount that seems like someone misread the recipe. And the taste. It just tastes like maple syrup, overwhelming the beer, destroying its flavor, there's nothing but maple. Then the mouthfeel, my god, I had to get a water to remove the sticky sweetness from my tongue. There is nothing good about this beer.

Comparing this to other breakfast type stouts, this one blew me away. I was really not expecting it to be as good as it was, but it far outshined KBS and CBS and the like. Strongly sweet maple, but there is a warm boozy note that cuts into it and takes the overly sweet edge off. Very nice brew,
