The new Barrel-Aged Sweet Barleywine is our most aged beer to-date… sitting in barrels for nearly 30 months! Remember our when we released the OG Barleyshake way (way) back? We reserved some of it to age in barrels. The original beer was a sweet barelywine brewed with milk sugar, add on to that the mellowing effect of 30 months in a barrel, this is a sweet sipper. And at “only” 9.5% ABV, this is one you can savor all evening long!

Barrel Aged Sweet Barleywine pours a milky and murky brown, with not much head. The aroma is big, sweet, dark cereal, malts, and burnt caramel. The flavor is sweet, with lots of oak, burnt caramel, and dark cereal. Good body and feel. Overall, a very rich, sweeter, barleywine.

Bottle. Little head. Caramel brown color.
Molasses, oak, caramel, whiskey, dried apples, pears, toffee, figs.
Really nice barleywine. The milk sugar shows in the mouthfeel with a little sweetness in it. Maybe has a milk stout chocolate note mixed in.

Look: Very dark, opaque chocolate brown. One finger of off-white head that disappears in a few seconds.
Smell: Very sweet, almost uncomfortably so. Chocolate, treacle, honey, molasses. All of it.
Taste: Not as mind-bending as the smell, but still extremely sweet for any beverage. Honey, treacle, some milk chocolate. Hops are a distant memory.
Mouthfeel: Thicker and creamier than milk, with mild carbonation.
Overall: While I ordinarily like beers without a hefty bitterness, this goes way too far in the other direction. It's so sweet and thick that you need to share the bottle.

A big thanks to Jeff for this one. 22oz. capped bomber into a Founders snifter.
Not much to look at. Thin with near no head with flimsy legs. Nose is rich caramel and molasses up front. Brown sugar, a nice nuttiness and booze in the back. Aromatic and deep. Beer opens caramel and molasses. Tobacco overtones. Brown sugar, syrup, and honey in the middle. More layers of molasses, vanilla, and a lightly sweet soy sauce with loads of barrel at the finish. This one's mellow but has a ton of character. Body is full with low carbonation. Some light bubbles on the palate and goes down oily and slick with a long, lingering, hot aftertaste. Delicious.
As a super-aged beer, this one is really not much to look at. But the nose and feel are certainly there and ultimately, that's what's important.

So much barleywine around this winter! My heart is full. 22 oz. bottle split with my wife.
The beer pours a dead, nearly flat muddy red. The nose is full milk sugar. Sweet. Sweeter.
Barrel Aged Sweet Barleywine is recommended by 9 of 10 dentists that want to improve their margins. Holy sugar. This might be the sweetest beer I’ve ever ingested. Handfuls of raw sugar assault the molars & fillings & everything else plays ninety-sixth fiddle far behind. Touches of toffee, raisin, with a fair amount of vanilla. And 30 months in bourbon barrels, really? Other than a bit of heat, couldn’t tell. Half a bomber may seem like a chore shortly.
Way to much sweet, way too little barrel, hardly any barleywine. Not up to the standards of this brewery & easily the weakest offering from them I’ve had. Sub-mediocre.

A: The beer is clear brownish red in color and doesn't seem to have any visible carbonation. It poured with short white head that rapidly dissipated, leaving just a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Sweet aromas of barley and fruits are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and is rather sweet with notes of bourbon and dark fruits with slight hints of alcohol.
M: It feels nearly full-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This barleywine is rather sweet. You can definitely get some of the alcohol in the taste but it's not overly strong.

Bourbon barrel aged 30 months(!!!) with milk sugar added.
Aptly named, this is sweet indeed. I'm getting lots of caramel and plenty of fig plus a little vanilla. Satisfying enough but not all that complex. I'm getting surprisingly little bourbon Igiven all that time in the barrel. The mouthfeel is a tad thin.

Darker brown from the side, lighter and clearer brown from the top, no head. Smells of toffee, tons of dark fruit, especially date, barley, and a hint of vanilla. Taste is sweeter than nose let on, but I don't hate it, hold your gasps purists. Caramel, toffee, vanilla, date, raisin, dried black cherry all present in the taste, barley washes in about three fourths of the way through the sip before a surprise sweeter maple/toffee dipped fig ending. Feel has some booze detected despite none in smell and taste, barley is gentle, sweetness curbs intensity, it is sticky. The wife loved it

Bottle at share. Another great barleywine from UA. Not a big booze bomb, but plenty of what any BW should be. Sweet malts, tobacco, leather, raisin. thick and syrupy, tasty AF.
