We’re proud to present our latest collaboration with Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream - the 11% Rocky Road Stout! For our final bow together, we both thought we might as well end on classic. How do you a build a classic ice cream in beer form? We brewed an imperial stout and tossed in cocoa nibs, toasted marshmallow, vanilla beans, almonds and some good ol’ milk sugar. Now you’ve got yourself ice cream in a can!

Pours a pitch black color with a thick brown foamy head. Head is very mild. Lacing is decent. Aroma of vanilla and Cocoa nibs. On the taste, I get Cocoa nibs up front with a strong vanilla taste on the end. Heavy bodied with mild to moderate carbonation.

this is tasty, another heavily flavored dark brew from these guys. this one hides its abv pretty well, and actually feels almost thin in body, perhaps faint astringency creeping in thinning it a bit, this can is from early february 2022, not sure how long these were ever meant to hold up, or how fresh they were when they came to idaho anyway, i havent had this all that long. either way, its real minimal and not too much of a distraction at all. total dessert beer here as so many of theirs are, but i like how each element can be appreciated. i always dig when nuts really stand out, and i think the almond here approaches lead flavor note after obvious roast and cocoa decadence establish themselves. the almonds hit as earthy and natural, they keep this grounded where more grain bitterness is absent, and they are there from start to finish, never turning into amaretto or anything, just staying their simple and delicious selves, i like this element a lot. the vanilla is also gorgeous, natural too, and strong in here, even compared to some of their others that use it, more full bean vibes here, a central climax but a long fade into the finish. some brownie batter character, a hint of hazelnut and coconut too, lots and lots of sweet chocolate, just a little organic baking dark chocolate thing too but its not enough to keep the lactose and other residual sugar from making this a palate coating diabetes bomb, even if it tastes good, and even if some thinness is coming into it. toasted marshmallow seems completely superfluous with this much lactose, but thats whats trendy right? love the mix of flavors in this, and im surprised how well disguised the alcohol is, even at temperature. my mother in law loves this sort of thing, so a fun can to share around, a little is a lot of this. ice cream mission accomplished.

12oz can pours somewhere between dark brown and opaque black with a giant dark mocha head; strong ice-cream vibes with notes of chocolate, cacao nibs, vanilla, marshmallow, toasted almonds. Nothing wrong here, not my favorite UA pastry stout of all time but a very solid offering that gives off that Rocky Road vibe with only a hint of anything artificial in the nose and on the palate.

Poured from a 12 ounce can dated 2/3/22 into a snifter.

Look- Black, opaque, light brown frothy head, extremely below average head retention and lacing.

Smell- Cacao nibs, almond, vanilla, medium strength of scent.

Taste- Cacao nibs, toasted marshmallow, almond, vanilla, high strength of flavor.

Feel- Between medium and full body, below average carbonation, silky, moderately mouth warming, mildly bitter, moderately creamy, moderately mouth coating.

Overall- Black appearance with well below average head retention and lacing. Bouquet was medium in strength with a pleasant balance of cacao nibs, almond and vanilla. Flavors were very vibrant and delicious. Great mix of cacao nibs, toasted marshmallow, almond and vanilla. The feel was silky with a nice moderately mouth warming and coating property. Overall this was a delightful experience with delicious flavors that were very vibrant and a great feel.

Pours dark, smells like its name. Tastes like a beer milkshake. Cocoa, almonds, marshmallows, and lots of alcohol. It's a slow sipping dessert. Worth every penny.

Dammit, I struggled how to rate this. It's truly a great dessert beer - not too sweet, not overly boozy, almost perfectly balanced. It's that almost part I struggled with. I thought about some more so, screw it, I rated it as I felt it deserved - damn fine and frigging good.

12oz can poured into a teku

A- pours jet black in color with a one-finger foamy khaki head that reduces to a ring

S- initial aroma is roasted almonds and chocolate, followed by marshmallow, vanilla and creamy milk sugars. It smells just like rocky road ice cream

T- very sweet up front with notes of cocoa nibs, vanilla, heavy cream and caramel. Mid-palate brings out some marzipan-like almond notes, along with marshmallow cream. The finish gives more chocolate and vanilla, with a creamy marshmallow note on the linger

M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that turns slightly creamy into a warming finish

O- as usual, UA nails it with the aroma of these pastry stouts. All of the flavors were there as well, but the sweetness gets a bit cloying by the bottom of the can

12oz can from Tavour. Near black pour, a new bubbles, then flat. Aroma is equal parts chocolate and vanilla. Taste is chocolate syrup, walnuts and vanilla. Amazing how close this is to the real thing. A bit of late heat, but super smooth for 11%.

Rocky Road Stout has a thin, fizzing-away beige head and a dark- brown, opaque appearance, with no lacing. The aroma is of chocolate, vanilla, and dark-roasted malt. The flavor is similar, with milk, low bitterness, and high sweetness. I detected no almonds. Rocky Road Stout has a high-medium body, a silky mouthfeel, and a semi-sweet finish.

Look: pours pitch black with a finger of mocha suds quickly reducing to a still oily liquid with some needle point bubbles revealing themselves on the swirl.

nose: Rocky Road Iced Cream! Chocolate iced cream on the front. Like your putting your nose in a chocolate milk shake. Followed up by almond nuttiness, creamy vanilla marshmallows, and a rich malty base stout. Delicious.

taste: follows the nose perfectly. I’ll put it in simple terms. Go get a couple scoops of Rocky Road and let it melt in a dish in the counter for an hour and then drink it. That’s exactly what you have here. No bitterness or off flavors, no flavors to even remind you you’re drinking a beer.

feel: creamy, smooth, thick, mouth coating, deliciousness.

Excellent.
