When there's no money in the budget for an island vacation, at least part of us can go. Yea, the tastebud parts. And that's thanks to Untitled Art and their Tiki Sour ale.
Hazy and light mauve, the clumping, fizzy and generally ugly-duckling fruity beer doesn't start off appetizing, but its scent soon wins over the senses with a bevy of tropical fruit with undercurrents of cider, wine and citrus. Smooth, sweet and creamy, the beer's candied sweetness sets the tone with taffy, cream and sourdough.
With the sweetness giving the fruits a ripe and radiant tone, its the fruits of pineapple and mango that stand tall along with secondary flavors of grapefruit, orange, lime, lemon and crabapple. Smooth, soothing and creamy, the sourness of the ale is wrapped in a soft cocoon of coconut, vanilla and light cream.
Fuller for Berlinerweisse, the beer's sourness is off-dry as the ale finishes juicy, fruity and plump. A dry wine and cider contingency keeps the session palatable, drinkable and refreshing, you just gotta get past the beer's appearance.
