Draught pour.

355ml can poured into tulip.

Pours black with cappuccino head that leaves moderate lace.

Nose of chocolate, roasted oats, dark coffee, and black cherry.

Tastes creamy with subtle sweetness the front. Excellent mouthfeel. Strong notes of chocolate and coffee overpower. Black cherry nose is absent on the palate. Finishes dry.

A very nice stout for a cold day. Would pair well with a hearty stew or an aged cheese.

355ml can poured into tulip.

Pours black with caramel highlights and one finger of cappuccino head that leaves strange alien heiroglyphic lace as it recedes.

Smells of roasted grain, melting baker's chocolate, coffee grounds, dried cherry, faint black licorice and mild leafy hops.

Tastes of dark chocolate, cold creamy coffee, toasted caramel malt, more soft cherry fruitiness, licorice and more gentle earthy, leafy hops.

Feels soft and creamy. Hefty medium body with velvety carbonation. Finishes dry.

Verdict: Highly recommended. Great for a rainy evening.

My favorite brew to enjoy on tap at the brewpub and finally getting a chance to do a proper review....from can.

A- Pours a velvety dark chocolate color that reminds me of the good stuff freshly melted and blended! The head is a very intelligent looking caramel/toffee hue that is thick, meringue like and has excellent retention, starting out around two fingers thick and settles in a subdued fashion to about a half finger of almost nitro looking foam. Lacing is quite nice, leaving behind a thick layer over the inside of my glass. A very sharp looking Stout overall and among any of the top rated.

S- Bittersweet chocolate, freshly roasted black coffee, toffee creme, hints of mocha, lightly toasted nuts, hints of rummy raisined fruits, Christmas cake, and mild alcohol.....could also pass as smelling somewhat of black forest cake! The finish is Earthy, dry and of muted hop bitterness.

T- I let this warm up for several minutes before even having a taste and boy am I pleasantly surprised! Creamy mocha/coffee/chocolate dominate the palate and there is a deep toffee/molasses sweetness about it that is balanced by creamy, yeasty biscuit notes, astringent and bitter chocolate & black malts, which leave this as a dry classic style that sits well on the palate in all sensory areas!

M/O- A creamy, medium bodied Stout with super smooth carbonation.....again I say this is like a Nitro really in terms of mouthfeel. The alcohol is very subtle as it warms and overall this is highly drinkable. It stands up against anything any other brewery can put out for a standard version of this style and I'm certain about this! Highly recommended and if anyone finds this in their neck of the woods, I say buy a six pack and enjoy!

16oz pint at Beer Revolution YEG Oliver - nice to see more of this Gas City brewery's offerings show up here so promptly!

This beer appears a fairly solid black, yet with prominent basal amber highlights, and one finger of weakly puffy, loosely foamy, and kind of bubbly brown head, which leaves some decent broken web lace around the glass as things slowly recede.

It smells of lightly roasted caramel malt, bittersweet cocoa powder, subtle dark orchard fruity notes, a hint of anise spice, meek cafe-au-lait, and some tame earthy, weedy, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, a twinge of free-range ashiness, sort of soured milk, ephemeral artisanal coffee, some plum and bing cherry black fruitiness, those boozy holiday chocolates, and more earthy, leafy, and gently perfumed verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is adequate in its sometimes struggling frothiness, the body a so-so medium weight, and generally smooth, with an expected creaminess that seems a bit stillborn. It finishes off-dry, the malt starting to scratch at the exit, and the 14-proof wowee sauce perhaps encroaching more than it should.

Overall, I really wanted to wax eloquent about this one, however, there's a barely checked acrid stripe running through it, one that detracts from the typical oatmeal stout goodness. Not bad, but certainly there's some room for improvement here.
