1L howler from the good ol' Sherbrooke Likka Sto' - apparently this is the original native name for the city of Medicine Hat, which plays oh so nicely into the former's, er, 'clientele' - believe you me! No freaking idea as to the style here, I gotta say, other than the inference of a sessionable pale ale.
This beer pours a clear, bright, medium copper amber colour, with one measly finger of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly dirty white head, which leaves some eroding limestone cliff lace around the glass as it gently abates.
It smells of grainy and doughy pale malt, some lesser biscuity caramel sweetness, subtle mixed peppercorn spicy notes, and some leafy, weedy, and estery floral green hop bitters. The taste is dry grainy and crackery pale malt, weak earthy and musty domestic fruity notes, a hint of stoney flintiness, and more leafy, weedy, and somewhat herbal verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is fairly active in its assertive frothiness, the body a so-so middleweight, and mostly smooth, with very little else to really recommend it as a going concern. It finishes off-dry, the adequately hoppy malingerers doing well to keep my wavering attention.
Overall, this is a very tasty brew, one with a lowered ABV which obviously makes for a 'sessional' expectation. Lots of hoppy esters abounding, and worthwhile of investigating as a go-to brew if you ever find yourself in this particular part of Wild Rose Country.
