Fathomist is a German black lager with a rounded flavor, which offers mild roastyness and a touch of caramel presence. Well-defined maltiness, light unsweetened chocolate with a bit of roast. Highly drinkable!

Sampling a cold 16 oz can picked up at the brewery. The beer is poured into my snifter.
The beer pours a clear dark cola brown color with a creamy dense eggshell white head of 1 cm. This foam fades quickly to a very sturdy surface layer and tight edging that gives dense latticework after each sip.
the aroma on this beer is some dark bitter chocolate with a bit of burnt caramel and roasted notes. I dont get any hop hit here, maybe some light spiciness or even an anice note. Pretty straight forward nose on this malty brew.
First sip reveals a light and crisp textured body with very fine carbonation that is a little prickly as it goes across my palate. Easy drinking physical traits on this beer, which makes sense for the style.
Flavor is some dark chocolate with some bitterness and unsweetened coffee notes. I get a good bit of roasted malt and some molasses notes, but the beer finishes with a dry coffee bitterness that lingers after each sip. Maybe a little bit of an herbal tea hop note and the booze is completely hidden here.
Pretty nice, malty, but not sweet brew that drinks pretty easy and well worth a purchase. Glad to have tried this one!

A- Tallboy pour into a goblet with a very dark brown to black body. A tan head rises up fast with a thick and creamy texture to one inch high and it has good retention. Big pillows of thick lacing that drapes several mm off the glass.
S- Dry, roasted grains highlighted in an aroma that is most definitely malt driven. Dark chocolate, coffee and cocoa powder come to mind as well as toast, nuttiness, hints of sweetness and grainy bread. Just a hint of spicy hops.
T- Has a similar malt character to an Irish Stout with a very dry and dark malt profile that approaches charred but never gets overly roasty or bitter rather settling on espresso and dark cocoa powder notes as the main character of the flavor. Heavily toasted nuts, caramel, a touch of dark fruits from the yeast and bread notes in there as well. Hints of spicy and herbal hops round out the finish which has light bitter-sweetness.
MF- Light bodied overall but it sits on the palate with a puffy and fairly foamy texture. Carbonation is at a moderately high level and the finish has a lingering roasty and hop bitterness.
Sort of like chocolate, coffee, toffee bread with the malts being showcased alongside a light hoppiness. The overall flavor is really nice as all of these things find themselves well balanced among each other.
