Metanoia is a blend of 1 and 2 year old spontaneous barrels rested on Carignan wine grapes. The result is a beer with juicy notes of ripe raspberry, tart pomegranate, and subtle spice with a bright acidity.
It’s almost hard for us to believe that the conceptualization of this beer began more than 5 years ago and is now in bottles and ready to be enjoyed.

L: Pours a ruby brown with good clarity. A gentle pour creates a finger and a half of fizzy, khakhi head that immediately dissipates. A few lazy carbonation streamers can be seen rising to the surface.
S: On the nose I get a vinous character presenting dark fruits like blackberries and black cherries. I also get a bit of raspberry, a wonderful woody funk, a light note of tobacco, and lactic acid.
T: On the front end and mid palates I get raspberries and blackberries; while the back end and finish present light notes of earthy tobacco mixing with woody funk.
F: This one has a medium light body with carbonation on the lower side of medium. The mouthfeel is vinous to say the least. The back end and finish have a nice tannic quality that grips the palate and is complemented by a nice dryness on the finish.
O: This one reminds me a lot of Aeolian. Either way, this one is excellent and it stands on it's own as Counterweight's first 100% wild ale. Counterweight has hit a home run with this one. The barrel aging has helped impart a satisfying but not over the top tannic quality to the mouthfeel and also produces a nice woody funk. Highly recommended!
