Brewed with English malts to create a delightfully malty beer with notes of toffee and caramel, and a touch of cocoa. Great balance and depth of flavor in a small beer.

A: opaque; cola brown in color; less than a 1 finger light tan head that receded to a moderate collar; very little lacing;
S: moderately roasted grain and semisweet chocolate;
T: moderately roasted grain from start to finish; mild to moderate bitterness at the end;
M: light bodied; light carbonation; moderately dry finish;
O: not a style I particularly like, mostly due to the light body and low carbonation; this one is nicely done and true to style;

Very large head (four fingers). Slow to recede...lumpy. Wide streaks, almost a blanket. Brown color where light passes along the edge.
Biscuity smell with some darker malt aromas similar to a deeply-toasted bread. Clean aroma with light floral hops.
The flavor mimics the smell with a light burnt malt touch. The body is thin and the carbonation is slightly elevated. Well balanced with enough hop to create a moderate aftertaste. The burnt patent malt is subtle but adds to the bitterness and some smokiness. Still, the predominant flavor is closest to a brown ale or porter. This makes this an intriguing mix.

L: Pours an amber-brown to brown color. On tap this one has good clarity, but from the can it is a bit opaque. The pour results in a finger of off-white head with good retention. The head falls to a 4mm cap that is retained as I drain the beer. As the beer recedes in the glass it leaves a nice webbed lacing.
S: Light notes of dark fruit, roasted malt, a bit of chocolate, and a very light earthy character.
T: On the palate I get prominent roasted malt that imparts light notes of caramel, a light nuttiness, grainy notes, and notes of chocolate. There is also just the slightest hint of an earthy hop character coming through on the finish.
F: This one has a light to light-medium body and medium-low carbonation. The mouthfeel is smooth with a very light effervescence tickling the top of the palate as the beer goes down. The finish is dry.
O: This is an excellent beer that is highly drinkable and sessionable clocking in at 3.8% ABV. I don't have very much experience with English dark milds but this is a style that really needs more attention from American craft brewers. Highly recommended!
