A 10-oz draft pour into a snifter, at the brewery.
Look: Golden amber, with a one-finger head that lasted long and left substantial lacing.
Nose: Smoke gently dominant — very nice — with sweet grain in the background.
Mouthfeel: Medium, nice gentle coating of the tongue, plenty of carbonation.
Attack: Great depth of grain flavor, and some smoke.
Finish: Strong hop bitterness, a bit unusual for a lager.
Overall: This is an excellent brew — a bit hoppy for my personal tastes (compare to an Aecht Schlenkerla beer), but I can’t downrate it for that — it’s listed in the menu as 40 IBU, so I knew what I was getting.
