Like a schwarzbier/Baltic porter mash up. A crisp body and firm bitterness meets rich roasty, chocolate and toast flavors with a hint of oak smoke and a dry finish. What old time dark lagers must have tasted like.

Not special enough to write a detailed review...but good enough to drink again. I have been drinking complex IPAs and stouts very frequently and it's been a while since I had a lager. This is a great looking dark lager that had a thick head which lasted and left lacing, but wasn't so tall as to be annoying. The aroma was relatively lacking and smelled like...beer. Compared to big label lagers, this would blow away your household names. But in the craft beer world it would be lost amoungst the bolder brews. If you like lager give it a try.

Hops are Hallertau Mittelfruh and the malt bill includes some oak-smoked wheat. Color is quite dark, not quite black, with plenty of foam in the chalice. Sudsy mouthfeel. There is more malt than a typical Schwartzbier, and maybe a little sweeter. The smoke comes through in the nose.
This is fairly bitter and it lingers for a while in the aftertaste. Overall, this is quite a complex dark mouthful. It seems a little hot in an interesting way, with some astringency, and a hint of smoked applewood. From the 16 oz can purchased at Elizabeth Station.

Look: Extremely dark brown, verging on black. Three fingers of foamy tan head with decent retention.
Smell: A strong sweet scent. Chocolate, toffee, some dried fruit. Reminds me somewhat of a Trappist quad.
Taste: Mildly sweet malt, a combination of hop and roast bitterness, and a light biscuity undertone. A slight aftertaste of coffee.
Mouthfeel: Full body with decent carbonation.
Overall: My only wish is that the taste was a bit more developed.
