ive liked these moon series beers i have had, realizing now it is used to denote beer from the same foudre, pretty cool. this has some special honey in it, fireweed and blackberry, neat! intended as a biere de mars style, but seems maybe a tad less malty to me than that, despite the richer color here than some of the others have had from this series. its awesomely bubbly, gives rise to a bottle conditioned looking high airy head. the color is a muted orange tone, uniformly hazy but not sedimented or heavy looking. the honey is equally apparent in the aroma and the flavor, and is distinctive too, i love that, waxy and almost whole comb sort of vibe about it, springy and floral but not like an orange blossom type, highlighted and complimented by the tang of the beer, perhaps a tad more bacterial and less bretty than my favorites from them, but both elements are certainly present, and this isnt too acidic to be a drinker at all. some lightly sweet malt to this, notes of orange and lemon zest, sturdy white wine and oak tannins, plenty of earthy wheat, and the essence of the honey without its sugar really showing up. very cool mix of flavors, great carbonation, pretty fast finishing. i love what the honey does in here and appreciate its uniqueness. matchless is a brewery i continue to be impressed by, and this series has been wonderful in my experience. looking forward to whatever they do next with it. this was a standout in a heady little saison session last night!
