Dated sometime around Nov'19 and reviewed on March 2nd, so adjust accordingly. Dark amber and slightly hazy. Sparse on the head and lacing, very low aromas.
Very malt-forward, almost too much. Bitterness is low and the flavors seem muddled. Even discounting for the 4+ months since being canned, we think a Doppelbock would have good staying power. They could do better.

Can from Market of Choice. Canned 11 Nov.
A clear crimson with a dense, off-white head with good retention and lacing this looks good. The nose has a lot of caramelized fruit, with golden raisins, and a noticeably sweet plum character. There's sweet toffee, dark caramel, a mild dark honey present. For a beer that's been decocted, it doesn't show a deep, bready aroma, probably because no Munich or Vienna malt was used. The palate opens sweet with a simple sweetness coupled with fruit notes. There's honey, golden raisin, a whisper of chocolate, and finally, a mild grainy bitterness. There isn't a whole lot of hop flavor, at least not enough to stand up to the sweetness. The mid palate is creamy and sweet, soft and fruity. Sweet on the finish with plenty of fruit, this is solid. A little less bready and a little sweeter than I typically like my dopplebocks, though.
