the beers come and go, but to me these guys can do no wrong, i buy them when i have the chance and i always enjoy them. this is bigger than many of theirs to me, piney and more old school, a heap of malt in here too along with all these hops they apparently didnt need to buy, but its nice beer, lumber forward to me, weedy and dank and super intense at the end, oily, west coasty even though there is some haze to it, and right on the verge of being too much. some oxidation to this, maybe more apparent because its pretty malty, but its still nice. lemongrass, fresh spruce, and a lot of oily bite. this is pretty raw for these guys, not their best work either, plenty of linger and intensity. to me this is a little hot, somewhat uninteresting, and robust enough to be sort of vegetal and aggressive, although this doesnt seem all that fresh to me and probably hit its peak awhile back. bitter as it warms, peculiarly malty too, woody again, hard to really size this one up, i love the brewery but i dont love the beer, and as the name suggests maybe its a brew to use up extra ingredients, it maybe seems less intentional that others. good by many standards but short of what i have come to expect of them...

Clear amber brew with swirls of foam in the Kasteel chaice. Aromatic with ripe honeydew and lime peel. Some malty sweetness adds to the pleasure. Fruity with a bit of astringency in the finish. Robust flavors and substantial body makes for a mouth-filling adventure. Lush carbonation.
Hops are listed as Centennial, Citra, El Dorado, and Galaxy, and brewed with Pilsner and Vienna malt. Another excellent hoppy beer from Matchless. From the 16 oz can shipped from the brewery.
