Hersbrucker & Hallertau Tradition hops. Proximity Pilsen Malt. Old World lager yeast. All of this checks out for a perfectly balanced Helles lager. What else could you need? Honey? In a Helles? Oh the blasphemy! But its clean and smooth mouthfeel complements a sweet and spicy malty lager.

Not quite as clear as I had anticipated, but mostly so. Just a bit of thickening. Small fuzzy white head doesn't really linger as a head, but it does retain as patchy spots.
Nose is immediately quite honey-sweet with light biscuit/crackery malts. A little grassy support from the hops, this is very refreshing and would probably hit the spot wonderfully during warmer weather.
Flavour carries much the same profile... Light crackery malts, not quite as sweet as the aroma, the honey comes more in the back end. The hops are very light, and offer a touch of candied citrus.
Overall it's lovely and gentle. Probably would have been better on a warm afternoon, but this cold january is still plenty enjoyable.

delicious and blastable four pack of pint cans here from matchless, who continues to impress with just about all they do. this is not the conventional honey lager, nope, rather than let the honey lead and make a style that is supposed to be dry and bright sweeter than is traditional, they added it for flavor, upped the hops to counterbalance with with a noble spiciness, and have created a very distinct, yet still true to style beer, very impressive. the honey is sort of an essence through this, in aroma and flavor, never sweet or making this seem maltier than it is, as it often can in a beer like this. light floral notes work with the hops, and the fact that the yeast has so much flavor to contribute makes this extra complex for a little yellow drinker. high carbonation, robust hop bitterness, fast finishing, and just really good overall. more than expected from a helles lager, but still obviously a helles lager, not easy to do. good value on this one as well, i look forward to drinking the other couple of remaining cans in the fridge tonight!
