2018 bottling, really awesome stuff here, somewhere between an oud bruin and a flanders red, its a blend with some sour brown and some sour red in the mix, so its kind of both, or neither, whatever, its killer. i like this as much as the blueberry one, sour enough for the first few sips to be felt along the jawline as much as tasted on the palate. stained a little red from the fruit too, balaton cherries in this, hints of sturdy red wine and berries in the mix as well, a dry cocoa thing from the grain, a little earthy and a little sweet and i actually wish for a touch more of it in the flavor to offset some of the acidity, which makes this feel astringent and a little thin for how much flavor its packing. there is definitely a little mature woody funk in the mix, but almost everything but the fruit is overshadowed by how sour it is, and this is increasingly true as the temperature comes up, and was also true in the blueberry edition. the cherry is natural and awesome in this, contributing tartness of its own. the wood adds a needed richness, and overall this is very good and well made, even if its sour enough to be too much for one person as a solo bottle, most people anyway, myself included. a touch short on carbonation as well. i see they do a peach one, which i definitely am keen to try, i think less acidity and a little more sweet fruity balance is likely there, and that would be incredible in this base! massive thank you to my friend for dropping this one off on his way through this holiday season!
