16oz can purchased at Community Pint, in Spokane, WA, for $4. Canned on March 22, 2021. I took a chance on it despite the old canning date because a CDA might still be drinkable (as opposed to a straight IPA), and because This Is Spinal Tap is possibly my favorite movie of all time.
In the glass, this was the color of a cursed album, conceding nothing to light even when held directly up to it. Good sized, tan head. Lots of lace.
Roasty malt nose, along with a piney hoppy scent.
Some CDAs drink like a hoppy stout, others like a roasty IPA. This one - at least nearly 9 months after canning; maybe it was different when fresh - is like the former. Roasty and malty up front, with an undercurrent of piney hop flavor. Ends with a dry and roasty bite.
Medium bodied, with a slightly oily mouthfeel.
It's not been too badly affected by it's 9 month long stay in the can. Not my favorite of the style, but still quite good. I'd hit it again. Matchless generally only does one-offs, but I hope I can at some point have a fresh one of these.
