16oz can into a tulip. Pours a dark chocolatey brownish black with a respectable 1-finger khaki head that settles to a thin layer of foam.
Aroma is bitter and roasty—vanilla, dark malt, subtle bourbon.
Taste is likewise bitter and chocolatey, with espresso, vanilla, and bourbon. Warm toasted coconut.
Mouthfeel is a little thin for an imperial stout, relatively speaking, but drinkable. Medium body, smooth finish.
Overall a solid, straightforward, approachable barrel aged stout. I could see this being a great gateway beer to drinkers who haven’t had many beers like this.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a quarter finger khaki head that dissipates to a thin film with good persistence and lightlacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cocoa, woody oak, whiskey and vanilla. Flavor is dark toasted malt, fudgy chocolate, vanilla, oak and whiskey. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A very well balanced cocoa and vanilla stout. Sturdy, slightly sweet malt base supports the chocolate and vanilla flavors. Vanilla somewhat more subdued than the chocolate, which is about right for my palette. Silky mouth feel enhances the great flavors. I look forward to this stout series every year. This is a fine one.

New brewery for me
Brewers notes: Imperial Chocolate Stout was aged in Westward whiskey barrels and blended with vanilla beans & cacao nibs.
Imperial stout brewed with vanilla beans, cocoa nibs and cinnamon , one finger taupe foam cap, settles to a ring over a dark cola brown liquid, a ring of lacings
Aroma is whiskey, cocoa nibs , vanilla
Taste is cinnamon , whiskey, cocoa, vanilla . Starts with the cinnamon and finishes with whisky. Cinnamon taste dominates, not the burn, the flavor is apparent. Chocolate and whisky, hint of the vanilla
Low sudsing , dark malt finish,
Good beer, well crafted, a cinnamon taste forward imperial stout
