neat west coast pils, a style a like a lot, and the branding on this is fire, i was actually surprised to get my four pack home and learn its not fruited, sure presents like it is with this label. the beer is somewhat unexpected anyway though, way less bitter than anticipated with the west coast moniker, a little more malt to it, a shade deeper in color too, somewhat subtle overall, maybe off from max freshness, but a cool recipe anyway, a downright easy drinker, glad to be seeing more matchless beers around the boise area. not yellow from the can, its more brassy looking, some crystal type malt giving it a little honey shade, insanely carbonated too, super high headed, hard to control on the pour, big soda bubbles in it, fine retention, almost overly can conditioned or something. smells and tastes good, but less hoppy than expected to both senses, more balanced, pils malt and some earthiness at the core, lager yeast for sure, subtle twang but not quite funk, almost rustic, not as clean and predictable and refined as expected, but i like the ferment anyway. i do think this combined with the maltier vibe of this has a negative impact on the hops, i love mandarina bavaria as a varietal but they are not obvious in this to me, there is some citrus character but its a tad generic as they go, not as fresh and popping as i hoped it would be, and the hops seemed condensed to a relatively short flavor window, so its a quick drink, at least the part of the beer that sold it to me in the first place is quick. some bright grassy notes, green melon, coriander, bread dough proofing, its flavorful but also easy, requires no real deep dive, but also isnt mindless, dont think im catching it perfect, i wanted more from the mandarina bavaria, but i like the beer overall. the high carbonation is wonderful, especially for summertime.

Clear golden amber brew with abundant foam in the Westmalle chalice. Aromatic with melon and peach. Crisp, fruity, and pleasingly sweet. Flavors of peach with a touch of orange and just a hint of citrus peel. It's interesting how some pIlsners are so bitter, but this one is not. there's a touch of bitterness in the aftertaste but mostly it's fruity and tangy with some modest stems in the finish. This will be in the running for favorite Pilsner of the year. From the 16 oz can purchased at Elizabeth Station. Dated 2/3/2025.
