Got this at the Mitra in town
From a 44cl can into a tulip
Coffee & Vanilla Imperial Stout
APPEARANCE: Clear dark brown pour yields a two finger, medium looking, foamy, light tan head with solid retention. Clear black body with medium levels of carbonation for the style. Head slowly recedes to a faint wisp and clings to the sides of the glass.
SMELL: Plenty of roasted coffee aromas, vanilla cream and caramel notes, cacao and milk chocolate, with solid roasted character. Bold.
TASTE: Roasted coffee up front, vanilla notes, some burnt flavors and some acrylic, metallic boozy quality after the swallow. Bold and persistent finish of burnt flavors, lots of roasted, bitter coffee, vanilla cream, and lots of acrylic character at the finish. Not all that great, per se.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes somewhat dry on the palate. A touch astringent perhaps. Some metallic alcohol character lingers.
OVERALL: This has some okay qualities on it, but the metallic, acrylic notes on it make it hard to finish. There are some nice coffee flavors and the vanilla additions are nicely measured, but the fermentation was perhaps off on this one, as the boozy character makes it tough to enjoy. Drain was happy enough. I’d say pass on this one and try something else.
