355ml can - I wonder what the folks who run Three Ranges Brewing out just across the BC/AB border think of this one's name?

This beer pours a clear, bright medium copper amber colour, with four chubby fingers of puffy, rocky, and somewhat chunky beige head, which leaves some stratified sudsy lace around the glass as it slowly but surely subsides.

It smells of grainy and crackery caramel malt, a suggestion of biscuity toffee squares, mild tropical and muddled fruity notes, some free-range mixed sugar syrup character, Mars Bars nougat, and some weak earthy, leafy, and grassy green hop bitters. The taste is bready and doughy caramel malt, a prominent hard water flintiness, some still mixed citrus and exotic fruitiness, more free-range gritty sugary essences, and a tame earthy, weedy, and dead floral verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is adequate in its palate-propping frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and generally smooth, nothing really interfering with this metric in the here and now. It finishes trending dry, that biscuity and flinty thing showing some real sea legs.

Overall, this is a pleasant enough pale ale, though the proclaimed tropical fruit esters really struggle to come alive. Easy to drink, kind of light-seeming, and worthy of sessioning, at least for a couple of rounds or so, I would imagine.

355ml can poured into tulip 31/12/16

A murky dark amber, can't see many bubbles but a finger of foam hangs around for a few sips leaving some spider web lace

S tropical notes, mango, bruised pineapple, canned peaches, ju-jubes and wine gums, some soft caramel and brown sugar

T not as much tropical fruit, more grains, some citrus rind and a little spruce comes out

M medium weight, almost creams up, a little gritty, spruce and rind linger

O not a bad first attempt, nice and hoppy and easy enough to drink

I thought this one was pretty solid and I'll be looking for more offerings from these guys for sure
