L - Dark as night; lovely. Good head for a bit, decent lace for a low ABV beer.
S - Very interesting aroma, smells more roasty than your typical Schwarz. More like a porter...which...
T - Continues on the palate with its roasty porter impression, some hop "bite" to go along with it, not very lagery as a taste.
F - Good carbonation, good palate impression.
O - This is one of the better domestic (US) Schwarzbiers I've tasted - well done!

From recent notes on a trip to Boulder, Colorado. Poured into a medium sized, shaker style kitchen glass. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a thin brown head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, milk chocolate and coffee. Flavor follows, with lager and dark toasted malt with a nice light char, milk chocolate and bitter coffee. Medium bodied with light creaminess. One of the unexpected surprises from this trip; the black lager name seems to be a sub-style appearing rarely, but more often. Clearly based and on and overlapping with schwarzbiers, it seems to often have a deeper lager like character to the malt, which improves the flavor for me. Gunny had nice char character to the malt and well balanced coffee and chocolate notes. Although not super complex, the flavor was great and much more full than expected from the ABV. Very nicely done.

was iffy on this product, being that it comes in a can. it was on sale where i was at and have been duped into cheap beer pretending to be special before. however the flavor is thick and satisfying for a dark beer. i love darks, and this one satisfied my taste buds well. it was consistently flavored through the 6 pack as well, where most beer starts tasting different or one is a bad batch... it has a smooth finish with no lingering taste, and i could drink gallons of it...the drunk was subpar, but i really enjoyed it overall.
too bad they don't come in glass bottles.

Bought at Liquor Shed.
Pours a very dark brown, aboot an inch of tannish foam with nice lacing.
Roasted malt, some smoke, milk chocolate nose.
Taste is kinda roasty, light smoke, milk chocolate with the lactose fairly prominent. Both bitter and sweet, nice balance going on.
Medium bodied with close to medium carbonation.
Excellent flavours going on at 5.5%abv.

Pretty solid lager from an unknown brewery. Strong notes of caramel, cocoa, and coffee. Looking forward to trying some more from them

This is a good lager from a newish brewery, and I'm interested to see what else they come up with after trying this one. It's a very drinkable dark lager, only 5.5%, and not heavy like a stout. The description on their website says it has a "pilsner-like aroma and flavor", mixed with the yeast and caramel malt, which all come through when tasting this beer. Good representation of the style.
