this is a pretty basic beer here, on tap at the pioneer near the university of denver campus. its a small batch series they are doing, but possibly just for this bar, as i think i saw it say pioneer on the tap handle, but i cant remember. this was batch 002, and they also had a wheat that was batch 001 on. nice to finally have some better craft beer in this place, they really havent kept up with the times on that, but neither of these good river offerings are anything special. this is a mostly clear red beer, flavorless on the fermentation, off dry, and with just a little bit of hop bitterness to it, balanced and drinkable enough, but relatively boring as they go, which i guess is sort of their thing here, lots of classic styles from good river in my experience, very little innovation. a nice kilned malt nutty middle, a crispness to it that is uncommon in the style that i like, and very solid carbonation to keep this moving. i keep wanting to like their beers more than i do, and if this small batch series is there experimental arm, where is the experimentation? maybe i have it wrong and thats not the case. i enjoyed my pint but wont be back for another too soon i dont reckon...

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
