Look: A rich chestnut brown with flecks of gold and amber. Pours with a 1 1/2 finger tightly bubbled taupe head. The head pulls back after 5 minutes to a very slight cover with slight lacing.
Smell: Toffee and leather with a sharp antiseptic note on the back end. Pleasing at the front but unappealing at the back.
Taste: Caramel and malt on the front end, hints of chestnuts and sour dough bread. The back end is sharp and astringent.
Feel: Lightly bodied and a little greasy with strong carbonation. This beer finishes with a very astringent English bitter like ending.
Perhaps I got an off brew, as I've had this before and liked it, but at the time of review what I'm getting is a far less nutty brown ale then I was expecting, and more of an English bitter style coming through. There are far better Brown Ales on offer in Ontario. I give it a B-.
