A- 16oz can pours into a becher with a deep black body and a nutty tan crown. The head rises to a finger with a frothy texture and fair retention. Rare spotty lacing.
S- Roast barley and toasted oats carry the aroma heavily and combine to give a bit of a dessert effect. Dark chocolate, burnt barley, cocoa nib, espresso and oat cookie notes. Hints of sweet fresh grain mash and caramelized sugars (almost approaches toast coconut) as well.
T- That grainy, freshly mashed barley flavor really gains some weight here and you get notes of barley husks in with the big stout character. Bitter dark chocolate, toasted oatmeal cookies, milk chocolate bar, coffee, burnt grain, caramel and toasted nuts. Medium sweetness. Hints of earthy hop bitters and dried dark fruits.
MF- Puffy medium-heavy bodied brew with the luscious softness that oats add with those residual sugars. Creamy low-moderate carbonation and a light bitter finish.
Lots of flavor from both the barley and the oats and a very soft and creamy mouthfeel. Bitter dark chocolate, oat cookies and hints of mashed raw grains. Good balance between sweet dessert and roast bitter flavors.
