On tap at Iron Tug Brewing in Rochester, NY.
This one pours a fairly dark brown-ish black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells strongly of wheated bourbon, dark fruit, port, fruitcake, orange peel, ginger, and caramel.
I think I would like this one a bit better without the Christmas spices - but I guess it wouldn't be a Christmas Quad anymore, then? There's lots of barrel here, very much in the spicy and fruity vein, definitely a wheated bourbon. There's luckily not too much overt dry spiciness - the ginger and orange peel seem to be the dominant added flavors. The base quadrupel seems to be quite heavy on the dark fruit, accentuated likely by the addition of the figs.
This is medium bodied, slightly boozy but not overly so, with a decent drinkability. The dark fruit character gets more amplified as the beer warms up a bit.
I liked their first barrel aged release a bit more overall, but this one was definitely an interesting beer to try, well worth the effort.
