12oz can, found in the Riviera Maya in Mexico. Pours a dark golden body, completely clear, one finger white head, short retention, no lacing. Smells of light bubblegum, thin indistinct graininess, a bit of mineral, sweet toffee, a bit of spiciness. Flavor is a bit more of the clove spice, no bubblegum, more of the indistinct graininess and a bit of warm heat that lingers a bit. It’s not unlike other hefeweizens, but it doesn’t stand out either. The yeast is supposed to be the star of the show, but it isn’t here. Mouthfeel is lighter bodied, lower carbonation, slight spicy clove on the finish. As far as hefeweizens go, this is the only one I’ve had in Mexico, so I can’t say much about the local scene but there are far better hefeweizens to be had in the rest of the world. The lack of any haziness here whatsoever is bothersome to me as well.
