Pours golden yellow with huge billowing white foamy cap that sticks to sides of tulip glass as it cools, from 11.2 oz bottle. Boozy Belgium spice, wine yeast and orange zest with subtle caramel and black pepper bite finish. World class Belgium Pale Strong Ale at 10.5% ABV.

On tap at Novare Res in Portland, ME.
This one pours a golden amber/orange-ish color, with a big fluffy head and lots of lacing.
This one smells like pear, white pepper, fig, caramel, and orange peel.
This is definitely a classic and super potent Belgian strong ale. It’s got some fruity sweetness, but finishes dry, peppery, and clovey. It’s got fruit leather, orange peel, and caramel. It’s all super well balanced in every way, from the malt, to the light hop character, to the restrained sweetness and booziness.
This is light bodied, crisp, clean, and drinks much easier than the higher ABV would typically suggest.
I can’t believe I haven’t gotten a chance to try this one before now – I’m glad Novare Res has such a dope tap list.

At my lady Pamela's house; bottled and slightly chilled, 330mL in a pint glass. From their Belgian Ale Tasting boxset at the Huron Church Rd. LCBO in nearby Windsor. Best before June 26/27. My 5th beer from the Evergem, Belgium brewery, and for 2025. With our true pirate, Gracie the cat...

Copenhagen 13/8-2017. 33 cl bottle from Den Gamle Købmand. Little chubby bottle with Pirate Ship on the label.
Pours hazy orange with quite big white head. Settles a 3 cm thick layer of foam. Massive lacing.
Aroma is sourish and sharp with fruity and dusty notes. I get a clear feel of the high ABV with strong boozy notes.
Strong carbonation and thick oily texture.
Flavor is medium sweet followed by strong sourish bitterness. Aftertaste is sour and very boozy with the alcohol coming through.
If you like your beer sweet, very strong and with an sour unforgiving touch - go for a Piraat.

33 cl bottle poured chilled into a kitchen glass. Nice foam pops. Nose is spice, banana, caramel, orange peel, bread. The taste follows, a pronounced bitterness is present. It’s not overly sweet. Full bodied with medium carbonation.
Overall, good brew, yet tastes like any other well-made Belgian ale.

From a bottle poured into a snifter.
A hazy chestnut / pale-tea colored pour with a thick/dense foamy head with high retention that paints curtains of abundant lacing and lasts to the bottom.
Aroma and flavor of fermented bananas soaked in caramelized malt extract, bubble gum notes and flavors reminiscent of exotic tropical liqueurs, vanilla, faint clove and a touch of astringency also come to mind. The bitterness and booziness are somewhat masked by the abundance of flavors. Well carbonated, and the finish and aftertaste are very pleasant.

L: copper color with fairly thick white head
S: Caramel with yeast and red wine
T: Caramel, yeast and alcohol with a dry finish. Nice carbonation.
O: I really like this one. Not sure why it's considered a pale ale. More like amber ale. Will definitely have this again.
