I was very excited that another brewery was opening up in Boca Raton. I’ve been to PB three times and have a lot of thoughts:
1) The location is out of the way in a commercial (non restaurant/bar area) that gets zero foot traffic and almost no drive byes. It’s very unlikely that anyone is going there unless they planned ahead. No extra customers is not helping their prosperity.
2) The place itself is a small taproom with a counter, a few tables, TV’s and some pretty good music playing. It’s comfortable but not really a place you want to spend more than an hour. A little dark with windows only street side and somewhat boring to hang around.
3) If the beer was great, 1 & 2 wouldn’t matter much, but the beer was slightly above average. Having two different flights, I couldn’t find a beer style that was done better than any other typical brewery in southern Florida. They need to distinguish themselves somehow. Be great at something. Also, PB is missing out on the IPA popularity. At their grand opening, they only had 1 IPA of the 12 beers on tap and it was a red IPA. How are you going to be prosperous if there are no return visits by your customers (why come back?) and you don’t give your customers what they want?
The service is good and they are nice people. However I don’t think they really have a handle on or possibly even the passion for craft brewing. The beer needs to improve fast or this place is going to be an oxymoron. I’ll try this place again in a few months, assuming that they are still in business.
