Sometimes the perfect barrel falls into your lap. This was the case with the single Mezcal barrel we picked up this spring. After drinking a frozen Mezcal Paloma from one of our favorite restaurants, The Southerner, Mitch knew he had to make a similar beverage in beer form.

The appearance is foggy and pale yet gem-like amber, with a weak khaki head that settles to a flat collar.
An herbal and bright barrel character gets pummeled by tons of bitter grapefruit and tart lime via a prickly medium-light body that finishes paper dry.
Not much of the smokiness from the mezcal surfaces, which I'm a little bummed about, but it does otherwise emulate a margarita quite well, albeit more wild, oaky, bitter and tart.

This is a truly remarkable beer, and if you can ever get your hands on it, do so, pay a damn premium. The heat from the mezcal barrels is palpable on the first sip, balanced incredibly by the sour, funky citrus/lime/salt, this ends up drinking like the most incredible margarita you’ve ever had. So warm, gets better as it sits in the glass. They need to do more mezcal barrel aged beers, this was eye opening.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
