.5L brown glass swingtop served by a friend in Budapest, Hungary. Reviewed live. Expectations are above average. BB: 01/15. 5.5% ABV. No style is indicated on the label. Served cold. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.
[Review is truncated as the environment is not ideal.]
No bubble show forms as it's poured.
HEAD: No head. Just a weak white ring which dissipates within 1-2 minutes, leaving no lacing.
BODY: Clear pale copper of average vibrance. Clean; no yeast particles or sediment is visible.
Appears adequately carbonated. Not unique or special.
AROMA: A hint of butterscotch. Munich malts, helles malts, barley.
Pretty simple. No yeast character, alcohol, or off-notes are detectable. Not real hoppy either.
A pleasant but uninteresting aroma of mild strength.
TASTE: Munich malts, helles malts, barley. Some butterscotch. Not too sweet nor too bitter - it's not real hoppy anyway. Balanced but simple. I do like it, but there's not much going on here. Average depth, duration, and intensity.
TEXTURE: Smooth and wet. Light-bodied. Okay thickness.
Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, or harsh.
Decent presence on the palate. This texture suits the taste decently.
OVERALL: Drinkable and enjoyable, but far from world class. I wouldn't get it again or recommend it to friends, but it's passable. You could do worse. Meh.

Poured as pale golden color with a hefty head. This had a decent taste but nothing outstanding or significant to keep me coming back to try again. Very satisfying with my pizza. I am not a great fan of dortmunder/helles but did like this one better than most others. It is worth another.

Looks and pours like a normal pilsener, short head, more than adequate carbonation. Faint smell, but a full and bubbly mouthfeel. I little bit of bite in the aftertaste. Nothing extraordinary, but a good example of the style. (hard to find a bad bier in Germany!)

Pours clear golden with huge white head, good retention. Aroma is grassy hops and sweet malt.
Taste is slightly sweet malt, nicely balanced by grassy and a bit floral hops, there are notes of minerals in the biting and dryish finish. Mouthfeel is light/medium with high carbonation.
I like it. Very drinkable and well made brew, maybe there is not too much character or complexity in the flavour department, but it does a very good job at quenching thirst.
