Drumconrath Brewing Co. "Hopped Up On Pils"
16 fl. oz. can without production codes or freshness dating
$2.99 @ Wall to Wall Wine and Spirits, Omaha, NE
Notes via stream of consciousness: A rough pour has brought up a massive head of bright white foam over a hazy straw gold body. The aroma is limited but displays some grainy and grassy malt and a touch of floral and herbal hops. On to the taste... it follows pretty much exactly. The malt is lightly sweet, grainy, bready, and grassy; threaded through with floral, herbal, and lightly spicy hop notes. A firm bitterness balances it and a subtle lager yeast sulphur note helps to give it a flinty dryness is the finish along with some residual herbal and lightly spicy hops. In the mouth it's medium bodied and crisp. Despite the initial head that I built, and even with slowly topping it up, the head didn't really hold all that well. Still, I've got a very thin surface covering with mountains of lace rising up around the sides beneath some residual clouds of lace above. With everything considered this is a very good take on the style and it reminds me of some of the better ones that I've sampled in Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic.
